
Rules:
All Applicants must complete & submit the following three documents via a single email:
1) an application
2) an original Essay
3) Applicant’s List of extracurricular activities
(e.g., a chronological list of church-related, school-related, and community service/civic work/stewardship activities the Applicant has participated in within the past academic year, with a brief explanation of each activity, including estimated hours worked/volunteered and any relevant impact of your service).

All documents must be submitted via email to scholarshipkofc9967@gmail.com, respectively, by the deadline of April 12th, 2026, at 9:00 pm Central Standard Time (no exceptions).

No hand-carried or printed submissions will be accepted. Please do not print it and turn it into the church office or hand it to a member of the Knights of Columbus.

A person can win a High School scholarship as many as four times during their course of study at an accredited Catholic High School or Homeschool Program within the Archdiocese of San Antonio.

A person can win an After-High School scholarship as many as two times during their course of study at a business school, trade school, community college, undergraduate 4-year college or university.

Applicants will be notified by email by the Knights of Columbus after receiving their applications (+) for consideration.

Essay-specific Rules: Students must submit an original, typewritten Essay. Essays will be evaluated using the following rules below, as well as for style, grammar, clarity of content, innovation, creativity, and conformity with the topic or main idea (i.e., evaluation criteria) according to the following guidelines:
1. The Essay must be the Applicants own work, original and unique content (i.e., no use of Artificial Intelligence or AI). No plagiarism or copyright infringement will be accepted. Previously published or awarded material will not be accepted.
2. Essay will be no more than 500 words and no less than 450 words, typewritten.**
**At the end of the Essay, (outside of the 500-word requirement) the Applicant must include “One verse or passage from the Bible that, inspires them, motivates them, or heals their heart & soul; it must include the Name of Bible, Testament, Book, Chapter and verse from the Bible and the reason the Applicant chose the verse. (e.g., New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), Old Testament, Genesis, Chapter 1, verse 2).
3. The Essay must be typed (electronically, using your computer) in Times New Roman font, 12 point size, double spaced, with 1-inch margins, to include top and bottom
4. The Essay must be marked with page numbers
5. The Essay must be submitted in either Microsoft Word “.docx” or Adobe Acrobat “.pdf” saved formats. We are sorry, but we will NOT accept any other types of formatted documents

The completed Essays will be assigned a number by the Scholarship Competition Chairperson or Grand Knight and will be sent to volunteer judges (Holy Trinity Catholic Church members), without identifying the Applicant.

Judges will assign numerical scores to each Essay, based on their cumulative scores for each evaluation criteria (e.g., style, grammar, etc.) and the List of Extracurricular Activities.

Scholarships will be awarded to the highest scoring Essays (and accompanying Lists of Extracurricular Activities) submitted.

All Essays submitted will become the property of Knights of Columbus Council 9967.

The Knight of Columbus Council 9976 reserves the right to make all final decisions regarding eligibility and interpretation of the rules.

Funds will be paid directly to the school.

If you apply but do not meet the criteria for the scholarship, your application will not be considered

An Applicant can apply/re-apply for a High School scholarship each year that they attend a Catholic High School or High School Homeschool Program in the Archdiocese of San Antonio.

An Applicant can apply/re-apply for an After-High School scholarship only twice (i.e., be a first- or second-year student attending an after-high school education/training program).​

Scholarship Funds Use Policy (Education-Related Expenses Only) :
Scholarship funds must be used solely for education-related expenses. Acceptable uses include, but are not limited to:
• Tuition and enrollment fees
• Required textbooks, curriculum materials, and academic publications
• Educational supplies and equipment (including technology such as computers or software primarily used for academic purposes)
• Laboratory, testing, or examination fees
• Educational programs, courses, or instructional services related to the recipient’s current or upcoming academic studies
• Homeschool curriculum materials and instructional resources for homeschooled students
Scholarship funds may not be used for non-educational purposes, including personal expenses, entertainment, travel unrelated to academic requirements, or any other costs not directly connected to the recipient’s education.
The scholarship committee reserves the right to determine whether an expense qualifies as educational. When uncertainty exists, recipients should seek written approval prior to using scholarship funds.
